In Dai An village (Nam Thang commune, Nam Truc district, Nam Dinh province) to develop the economy, for many years now, people have switched to growing Japanese velvet grass. This is a type of plant that is easy to grow, not requiring high technique.
Mr. Nguyen Van Cam (a grass grower in Nam Thang commune) shared: "When we started growing grass, we only spent a sum of money to buy seedlings; used water pumps for irrigation and some items attached to farmers such as: thuong, cuoc, shovel... In addition, we will pay attention to fertilizing the grass periodically".
Normally, grass growers can harvest 2 harvests a year, if they take good care, they can harvest 3 harvests. After harvesting, grass will grow back from the roots underground and do not have to spend money to buy new varieties.

According to the herbal growers in Dai An village, the grass grows best during the rainy season, and in the dry season, they need to water and take care of the trees more.
"The grass harvested for this season is planted by our people after a period of flooding. Because of the alluvial deposits, the grass has developed well, thanks to which the price of grass has increased compared to the previous crop. Many traders come to the garden to ask to buy at a high price, my family has to hire someone to harvest nearly 2 samples for customers to pick in 2 days," said Mr. Cam.

Also busy harvesting grass to sell at high prices, Ms. Pham Thi Tuyen (in Dai An village, Nam Thang commune) said that her family has been growing Japanese velvet grass since 2015, and now has had several dozen grass models to grow and sell all year round. Ms. Tuyen's house grass mainly provides decoration for urban areas, parks, traffic diversion, villas, hotels, ... so the output is relatively stable.
The price of Japanese velvet grass usually ranges from 8,000 - 15,000 VND/m2, at present, the price has increased from 25,000 - 35,000 VND/m2. According to statistics, Nam Thang commune has over 300 households growing grass, with an area of hundreds of hectares.
