Electricity demand in the Central region reaches maximum capacity

ĐÔNG GIANG |

Intense heat, electricity demand in the Central region increases sharply, setting a new peak since the beginning of the year.

According to the Central Power Corporation (EVNCPC), on May 26, the area from Quang Tri to Da Nang City, the eastern provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa experienced intense and especially intense heat, with common temperatures from 38 - 40 degrees Celsius, in some places exceeding 40 degrees Celsius such as Dong Hoi 40.2 degrees Celsius, Tuy Hoa 40 degrees Celsius.

Faced with extreme weather diễn biến, electricity demand in the Central region increased sharply. Recorded on May 26, the entire EVNCPC power system reached a maximum capacity of 4,628 MW, electricity consumption reached 98.1 million kWh, and also set a new peak from the beginning of the year to date. The electricity industry believes that loads may continue to increase in the coming days if the heat wave lasts.

To ensure safe and stable power supply to serve the living and production needs of people, EVNCPC has directed member power companies to implement many solutions to operate power sources and grids.

Accordingly, units should not stop or reduce power supply according to plan during times when the outdoor temperature exceeds 35 degrees Celsius and during peak hours from 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM on extremely hot days.

Power companies carefully review plans before carrying out repairs, maintenance or construction on the power grid; arrange reasonable power outage times and restore power supply on time as notified to customers.

EVNCPC also requests units to strengthen inspection of electricity system operation, especially in areas at risk of overload due to sudden increases in electricity demand. Inspection of power lines, substations, contact positions, connections, circuit breakers... is carried out regularly to promptly detect and handle abnormal heat sources, preventing power grid incidents.

Electricity units arrange 24/24 hour on-duty forces, fully prepare supplies and spare equipment to be ready to handle incidents, shorten power outage times for customers; and prioritize ensuring continuous power supply for pumping stations serving drought and saltwater intrusion prevention in the Central region.

Mr. Tran Van Gia - Deputy General Director of EVNCPC said that EVNCPC is focusing highly on operating the power system during peak hot weather, proactively monitoring the load situation to promptly adjust operating methods accordingly.

Besides the efforts of the electricity industry, customers' economical and efficient use of electricity is important in reducing pressure on the power system, contributing to ensuring safe and stable power supply in the hot season," Mr. Gia emphasized.

EVNCPC recommends that people use electricity safely, economically and efficiently; limit the simultaneous use of many high-capacity electrical appliances during peak hours from 4 pm to 11 pm daily.
