In mid-December, at the vegetable farm in Tuy Loc commune, Yen Bai city, the atmosphere was bustling as people enthusiastically tended vegetables to serve the market. With the high demand for vegetables during the Lunar New Year, producers are focusing on the final stage, putting all their efforts into fertilizing to ensure the best quality for the season.
According to Lao Dong, from early morning, people were present in the fields, diligently working on vegetable beds, preparing for the winter crop.
Many types of leafy vegetables and fruit with short growing periods are grown in large quantities to meet year-end consumption needs.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha (38 years old, Tuy Loc, Yen Bai city) said that farmers started planting 2 months ago, however, the soil is still quite soft and has a lot of alluvium.
"To have a quality vegetable season, from the time of planting, farmers here must closely monitor the growth of the plants. At this time, vegetable care becomes more important than ever, because just a small mistake can affect the quality of vegetables during Tet," said Ms. Ha.
Mr. Tran Duc Son (52 years old, Tuy Loc, Yen Bai city) shared that his family produces 2 sao of vegetables to serve the Tet market.
"To ensure good quality of Tet vegetables, we must pay special attention to selecting varieties and taking care of them early. Cabbage, kohlrabi, and cauliflower are vegetables that need just the right amount of water, not too much and not too little," Mr. Son confided.
Speaking with Lao Dong, Chairman of Tuy Loc Commune People's Committee Nguyen Anh Tuan said that after storm No. 3, many agricultural production areas of the people were severely damaged.
"Currently, the commune is actively implementing solutions to overcome the situation. Resolution No. 77 of the Yen Bai Provincial People's Council has provided more motivation for over 800 households with agricultural losses to receive support to restore about 120 hectares of vegetables and crops," informed the Chairman of Tuy Loc Commune People's Committee.
