The Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City has just signed a decision to establish a Council and Advisory Group of the City's OCOP Product Evaluation and Classification Council.
According to the decision, Mr. Tran Chi Hung, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee, will be Chairman of the Council; Vice Chairman of the Council, Mr. Ngo Thai Chan, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment.
The Council is responsible for advising the Chairman of the City People's Committee to direct the organization of assessment and classification of OCOP products according to the set of criteria and procedures issued in Decision 148/QD-TTg and Decision 1489/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister. The Council members will conduct a specialized assessment (1st time) to synthesize the results for the Comprehensive Assessment Council (2nd time), and at the same time announce the results and request the subjects to complete the documents when necessary.
The evaluation results will be submitted to the City People's Committee for consideration and issuance of a decision to recognize products that meet 3-star and 4-star standards; at the same time, prepare documents for potential 5-star products to send to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to propose national OCOP recognition.
The OCOP Council Advisory Group has the function of supporting and advising in the process of evaluating and implementing the tasks assigned by the Council.
The National Target Office for New Rural Development of Can Tho City is assigned to be the standing agency of the Council, receiving and inspecting OCOP records from the commune and ward levels; guiding the completion of records and ensuring conditions for facilities and equipment for the Council's activities.
Currently, Can Tho City has 895 OCOP products of 449 entities, including 4 5-star OCOP products, 242 4-star OCOP products and 649 3-star OCOP products. Of which, ST25 rice products of Ho Quang Tri Private Enterprise were recognized as nationally OCOP in 2025.
