On the afternoon of October 22, Binh Dinh provincial leaders worked with PNE Group Chairman and CEO Per Hornung Pedersen on the Hon Trau offshore wind power project.
Hon Trau was surveyed and evaluated in 2020. PNE proposed to build a project on the sea of Phu My and Phu Cat districts, expanding to the South, to the areas of Nhon Ly, Nhon Hai, and Nhon Hoi communes of Quy Nhon city.
The project has a total expected capacity of 2,000 MW, implemented in 3 phases, with an investment capital of about 4.6 billion USD.
A pioneer in the field of offshore wind power development in Vietnam, Hon Trau is not yet on the list of power sources in the plan to implement Power Plan 8.
The project also requires consideration and adjustment of shipping routes; the possibility of overlapping with other projects...

At the meeting, PNE Chairman Per Hornung Pedersen affirmed: “As PNE’s first offshore wind power project in Asia, Hon Trau has received great attention from the Vietnamese and German governments. This is a dedicated, priority, and key project of the Group.”
Mr. Per Hornung Pedersen expressed his sympathy with the current unpreparedness of policy mechanisms for offshore wind power:
“Germany was like that before. But now we are here. PNE hopes to develop the project into one of the first successful pilots of offshore wind power in Vietnam, and also a model pilot project in the development cooperation program between the two governments of Vietnam and Germany.”
Regarding the legal corridor for the project, in February 2024, concluding the meeting to remove difficulties and obstacles for offshore wind and gas power projects in Power Plan 8, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha assigned the Ministry of Industry and Trade to preside over and coordinate with relevant ministries and branches to study and develop a pilot project for offshore wind power development.

Welcoming the PNE high-ranking delegation to Binh Dinh and the Group's preparation to open a representative office in Quy Nhon as a sign of its determination to promote the project, Provincial Party Secretary Ho Quoc Dung affirmed: "Hon Trau is one of the most important projects of Binh Dinh in the orientation of local socio-economic development. Binh Dinh has 134km of coastline, abundant wind energy resources, synchronous infrastructure, and open investment attraction policies. The province will persistently support, accompany, and create all favorable conditions for the project to develop."
