On May 15, 2015, Hon Gai Coal Trading State-owned Enterprise (now Hon Gai Coal Company, under the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group (TKV) was established and was assigned to receive and take over the entire production facility of Phap Bac Ky Coal mining Company (S.F.C.T).
This is a large private coal mining company of France, managing and exploiting coal mines stretching across the Quang Ninh Coalfield, mainly in Ha Long and Cam Pha, for 72 years before the French completely withdrew from Vietnam in 1955.
For this reason, Hon Gai Coal Company is always considered the predecessor and founder of TKV, because after that, the coal mines and production facilities that Hon Gai Coal Company took over from French companies across the Mining region were assigned to other companies after being established.
When taking over, many production facilities were damaged, machinery and equipment were damaged by the French company's deliberate demolition; 2,183 miners were unemployed, and their lives were extremely difficult.
However, in July 2015, the first month of launching the "Self-managed Workers for Enterprises", 31,404 tons of coal were produced = 100% of the plan; the consolidation and restoration work was completed in a short time, which French experts said took 6 months but workers at Hon Gai Coal Enterprise only worked for 19 days.
Prime Minister Pham Van Dong visited at that time and later, General Secretary Truong Chinh and President of the Vietnam Trade Union Hoang Quoc Viet visited and praised the mine workers.
In about 3 years of taking over, restoring, training staff, and importing technology..., the enterprise has mastered the technology and produced nearly 3 million tons of coal. After 3 years of restoration and development, the Enterprise was honored to welcome President Ho Chi Minh to visit Hong Quang mining area.
During the years of the resistance war against the US, although the US empire increased the sabotage of the North, including Quang Ninh, Coal Hon Gai counterattacked US aircraft, produced but still exceeded the 5-year plan.
With the slogan "both producing and fighting", "Hammer gun arms", Hon Gai coal workers and workers built 25 high radiation artillery battles, shot down 9 American aircraft. Besides, Hon Gai coal has established a transport commodity delegation for the South. The miners have been gathered into the coal regiment to the South to directly fight, contributing to the liberation of the South to unify the country.
70 years of taking over and developed, Hon Gai coal has changed the management model 14 times, from Hon Gai Coal Enterprise, Hon Gai Coal Mine, Hon Gai Coal Company, Hon Gai Coal Coal Company, then Hon Gai Coal Union, Hon Gai Co., Ltd. - TKV, so far Hon Gai Coal Company - TKV.
