On October 30, Mr. Ta Hoang Nhiem - Chairman of the Bac Lieu Province Shrimp Association said that the increase in raw shrimp prices is a good sign, and he expects the market to continue to increase at the end of the year due to high demand. However, unfortunately, farmers currently have no shrimp to sell. Many households are afraid of losses, so they suspend their ponds or raise them sparingly, while others cut and sell small shrimp to limit losses.
Currently, raw whiteleg shrimp of 20 pieces/kg is priced at 195,000 VND/kg; 40 pieces/kg is purchased at 144,000 VND/kg; 100 pieces/kg is purchased at 95,000 VND/kg..., this price has increased by an average of 6,000 - 8,000 VND/kg compared to last month.
According to many shrimp farmers in Bac Lieu and Ca Mau, the recovery of shrimp prices to previous levels has somewhat relieved the pressure on shrimp farmers. Many people in the province have renovated and released new crops with the expectation that by the end of the season, shrimp prices will continue to increase, and people can recover some of the investment costs from previous crops.
Mr. Tran Van Mung - Vinh Hau A commune, Hoa Binh district, Bac Lieu province - shared: "Since the beginning of the 2024 crop, farmed shrimp prices have been falling regularly, diseases have been rampant, while the prices of feed, probiotics, and equipment for shrimp production have been continuously increasing, causing many difficulties for shrimp farmers. I just hope that this pre-Tet crop, shrimp prices will increase and stabilize so that shrimp farmers can end the 2024 crop with the joy of a good harvest and good prices."
According to the Department of Industry and Trade of Bac Lieu province, in early October, the export market showed signs of improvement, with demand for seafood imports from major markets gradually increasing again. Forecasts from companies and businesses operating in the field of aquaculture and seafood processing for export show that in the last months of 2024, the demand for seafood imports from other countries will increase to serve the Christmas and New Year holidays, so many companies and businesses are accelerating production to meet market demand. In addition, large-value contracts have also been signed, mainly from countries such as the United States, Japan, the EU, China, South Korea, etc., helping the market to improve.
Mr. Ho Thanh Tuan - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dong Hai district, Bac Lieu province - advised: Currently, it is the transitional season, unfavorable weather makes farmed shrimp susceptible to disease. Shrimp farmers need to regularly monitor developments to supplement minerals and vitamins to enhance nutrition and resistance to help shrimp withstand unusual weather; use probiotics in the farming water environment to help decompose organic sludge and stabilize the water environment...
