At this time, the moon cake market in Ho Chi Minh City is gradually becoming vibrant, with purchasing power increasing. However, this is also the time when the market has many potential risks regarding product quality and origin. To ensure the safety of consumers, Ho Chi Minh City authorities have implemented many strict control measures.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Huy - Deputy Head of the Ho Chi Minh City Market Management Department, emphasized that monitoring, inspecting and controlling the market during the Mid-Autumn Festival is a key task of the industry. He pointed out the worrying situation when many types of cakes with labels are imported abroad but are actually poor quality, counterfeit or have commercial fraud. In addition, household cake products are rampant online with uncontrollable quality and prices, also posing a big challenge.
"People who sell smuggled goods and goods of unknown origin for profit are willing to accept the fine to sell. We went to check, in addition to large-dose sellers for profit, there were also small selling points. This situation is very difficult for the authorities" - Mr. Huy shared.
To deal with the above problems, the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City and the Department of Food Safety of Ho Chi Minh City have coordinated to implement the program "Responsible green ticket" in the food sector, with moon cakes as a launching product. This program is the acronym of the commodity quality control program in Ho Chi Minh City, aiming to promote the production and trading of safe and sustainable food and food.
Mr. Nguyen Nguyen Phuong - Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City, explained: "The current moon cake market in Ho Chi Minh City, especially after the merger of the administrative boundaries of Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau, is very difficult to comprehensively control in a large area. Therefore, it is necessary to have a new mechanism to protect businesses from being honest and prevent the spread of counterfeit and poor quality goods" - Mr. Phuong said.
When implemented, businesses that produce goods in general and moon cakes in particular that meet the standards will be equipped with green ticks, thereby helping consumers easily identify safe products, while creating a transparent competitive advantage for businesses".
Ms. Pham Khanh Phong Lan - Director of the Department of Food Safety of Ho Chi Minh City, also affirmed the importance of quality control even for small-scale production facilities.
"We are still often confused when thinking that making moon cakes at a small scale, at home, it is not necessary to do those things. But if we do it for the purpose of commercialization, from small production facilities to large companies, there are certain criteria, said Ms. Lan.
According to Ms. Lan, state management agencies will strengthen inspection and examination. This is a specialized and thematic inspection of moon cakes, which took place every previous month, right from the production stage and the distribution stage on the market. Inspection activities will also include reviewing on online channels, punishing places that make moon cakes that are not qualified for production.
