On the afternoon of December 4, at Can Tho University, the Vietnam - Japan Business Connection Forum was held with the theme "Exploiting the potential of goods in the Mekong Delta".
Speaking at the forum, Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen - Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee - said that the city has been receiving valuable support from organizations such as JICA, JETRO in improving urban management capacity and developing human resources.

According to Mr. Tuyen, Japan is always among the countries with a large number of projects and direct investment (FDI) capital in Can Tho, especially in the fields of processing, industry and trade. Japan is also one of the markets with the highest standards in the world and agricultural products in the Mekong Delta have begun to conquer this market. Typically, some key fruits (such as mango, longan, dragon fruit) and high-quality seafood have been successfully exported to Japan.
However, according to the Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City, the investment and cooperation results with Japanese partners are still not as expected and not commensurate with the potential that the region has. The need to attract investment capital, advanced technology and modern management experience from Japan helps increase the added value of Mekong Delta goods.

Mr. Tuyen said that Can Tho City is committed to continuing to strongly improve the investment and business environment, creating favorable and transparent conditions, providing maximum support in administrative procedures, land and human resources for Japanese enterprises to confidently invest and develop production and business in Can Tho in particular and the Mekong Delta in general.
It is known that Can Tho University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation with Aeon Vietnam Co., Ltd. and Takesho Food with the goal of developing processed food products under the TOP-VALU brand through cooperation with manufacturers in the Mekong Delta region, promoting "Made in Mekong Delta" products.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City hopes that in the coming time, the parties will promote the necessary procedures so that goods from the Mekong Delta region, especially agricultural and aquatic products, can be present at Aeon Mall Can Tho supermarket when completed according to the expected schedule, as well as at other businesses and partners in the Japanese market.
At the forum, delegates presented the role of Can Tho University: The model of linkage between State - School - Business House; Commodity standards of Aeon system: Ideas and standards of " made in Mekong products" from Aeon Vietnam Co., Ltd.; JICA - Can Tho University Cooperation Project: Promoting Japanese business connections for sustainable development in the Mekong Delta from JICA Vietnam; The need for cooperation between Japanese enterprises and Vietnamese enterprises from JETRO.
