When informed that the Trade Union would coordinate with the company to organize a Trade Union Meal and that day she would receive gifts for Workers' Month, Ms. Thien burst into tears of joy.
Her family circumstances are difficult. She herself is suffering from thyroid cancer. Her husband works as a freelancer, sometimes cutting wood, sometimes pulling pigs for hire. They have 2 children, one in 7th grade, one in 6th grade. Due to circumstances, the 2 children are in Ba Vi village with Ms. Thien's husband, while Ms. Thien works and lives in the company's dormitory.
With a second-tier worker's salary, working overtime, Ms. Thien's monthly income is about 16 million VND. Ms. Thien's economical spending method is to have breakfast at the dormitory, and lunch at the company's shift. Being frugal like that to have money to raise children and treat diseases. “For me, this is a very valuable gift, because materially the amount of money and accompanying necessities help me reduce some expenses this month. In terms of spirit, it is impossible to fully measure the concern of the company and especially of the Trade Union organization. I am a worker, carrying cancer, so that understanding and sharing is the most precious, incomparable...".
