Shows and MVs both have their own challenges.
Too familiar to audiences through million-view MVs, in the past few years, director Dinh Ha Uyen Thu has switched to directing movies and reality TV shows. What made you take such bold steps?
- I feel very lucky because my first encounter with art was the most correct encounter and touched my passion the most - that is music.
I am passionate about music, so telling stories through music, no matter how many years from now, I will still feel happy. If you pay attention, the films and shows I make are still built and developed from the core of music, so you can say that the thing that makes me do everything is "music".
Being a TV show director or a music video director, which job is more difficult and challenging for director Dinh Ha Uyen Thu?
- Both have their own challenges and pressures, just different timings. With TV shows, I am extremely pressured on the day of the show, that pressure makes me absolutely focused so that no mistakes can happen. With MVs, that pressure will be spread out from the preparation stage until the product is released. Both have very unique appeals and make me passionate and enthusiastic about it.
Loved by the audience through "Anh trai vu ngan cong gai", according to director Dinh Ha Uyen Thu, where does this success come from?
- My first reality TV show was "Anh trai vu ngan cong gai". For me, "Anh trai vu ngan cong gai" is where I satisfy my passion. I never thought "Anh trai vu ngan cong gai" was a race, an entertainment game.
I came to the program with a passionate heart and I believe the 33 talents do too. In my opinion, success comes from that.
In the show "Anh trai vu ngan cong gai", director Dinh Ha Uyen Thu had to work with 33 male artists, each with a different personality, how did you balance them?
- When I first came to the show, I was also pressured about how to connect the 33 talents together, but that pressure was really relieved when the 33 talents really made me feel at ease.
The talented people have created conditions for me to only focus on my expertise, while the relationships between the 33 talented people and the personalities of the 33 talented people have never been a distraction for me.
There is no conflict between talents.
Are there any conflicts or disagreements on the show "Brother Overcoming Thousands of Challenges"?
- I see that the talented people are very connected and come to the program with the mindset of interacting with everyone. That's why I think there is no conflict in "Anh trai vu ngan cong gai".
How is the difference between "Anh trai vu ngan cong gai" and other reality shows shown?
- In my opinion, with "Brother Overcoming a Thousand Challenges", their final destination is not the victory of any individual, but an "omnipotent clan", where they will develop and perfect together.
In the show "Anh trai vu ngan cong gai", the audience loves it because of the spirit of the brothers, the music and the staging. However, there are also opinions that the show is a bit "traditional" and safe. What does director Dinh Ha Uyen Thu personally think about this opinion?
- Tradition is one of the "keywords" that we want to convey through the program. As for the opinion that the program is "safe", we would like to take note. But we and 33 talented people played very "hotly" and "enjoyably" on this reality TV show.
With talented people who are not professional singers, is it difficult for director Dinh Ha Uyen Thu?
- You guys are not professional singers, you don't make things difficult for me, you guys want to make things difficult for yourself, overcome challenges yourself.
For example, Hong Son tried his hand at contemporary dance and rap, and Duy Nhat tried his hand at modern dance. At each performance, they confided: “I can’t sing well, what can I do to surprise the audience?”
And after that question, you guys showed so many skills that even I was surprised. I believe that the non-professional guys in the program won the hearts of the audience.
Being a director is not easy, maintaining a reputation is even harder. Has director Dinh Ha Uyen Thu ever thought of giving up?
- Right from the first days of my career, when a singer asked me to make a MV, I was very happy. It was an indescribable happiness and I told myself that I would try to develop, try to stay in the profession as long as possible. I really love the profession, to reach the position I have today, I will have to contribute more. I have never thought of giving up.
If not a director, Dinh Ha Uyen Thu, try to sketch out who you would be today?
- If I weren't a director, I would still sing. Even if I wasn't famous, I would still sing. As long as it's a stage, I know where I always belong.
Does director Dinh Ha Uyen Thu want to continue with "Anh trai vu ngan cong gai" season 2?
- I haven't thought about this step yet, I'm still immersed in "Anh trai vu ngan cong gai" season 1, there's still the concert so I don't dare to think about season 2.
What is director Dinh Ha Uyen Thu's new plan?
- After "Anh trai vu ngan cong gai" are the projects I collaborate with singers. I am also eager to show everyone but afraid of affecting the plans of the singers I collaborate with. So, I will announce at the right time. I hope that the audience will continue to support my projects.
