Seventy-five years ago (April 4, 1949), amidst the mountains and forests of ATK Vietnam's North, Huỳnh Thúc Kháng Journalism School was born. This is the first journalism training facility of Vietnam's Revolutionary Press and also the only training facility during the resistance against the French colonialists.
Those who work in the press when recalling this special school all share a sense of pride about the "historical milestone" associated with the glorious path of press work under the guidance of President Hồ Chí Minh - the first teacher of Vietnam's Revolutionary Press... Although it has gone through a long journey, the spirit of that beautiful era will forever be timeless values, igniting the passion of the current generation.
In 2024, in a meaningful celebration of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Huỳnh Thúc Kháng Journalism School, with the aim of exploiting and utilizing the significant historical values of the relic, supplementing another meaningful destination on the map of Vietnam's contemporary press, meeting the aspirations of generations of press workers across the country, attracting domestic and foreign audiences, and making a positive contribution to the work of propaganda and education of history for the younger generation, the Vietnam Journalists' Association cooperated with the People's Committee and relevant functional agencies of Thái Nguyên Province to implement the Restoration and Conservation Project of the National Historic Site of Huỳnh Thúc Kháng Journalism School in Tân Thái Commune, Đại Từ District, Thái Nguyên Province.
On January 18, 2024, the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Restoration and Conservation of the National Historic Site of Huỳnh Thúc Kháng Journalism School was held. To date, after 7 months of construction, the Huỳnh Thúc Kháng Journalism School Historic Site has completed the main projects.
These include the Exhibition House - Miniature Museum of Huỳnh Thúc Kháng Journalism School, a 80m2 house built on a hill, modeled after the original documents and some remaining images, a wooden-framed house with artificial thatched roof to prevent fires; the Sawn House - Miniature Museum displaying the Press of Việt Bắc War Zone 1946-1954, 80m2 in size, modeled from the Việt Minh's headquarters' wooden house, where the press activities were directly directed and the Vietnam Journalists' Association was established in 1950; a relief with 48 portraits of members of the school's management board, lecturers, and students...
The relic is expected to be exploited and welcomed after restoration and conservation, receiving visiting groups, press workers, students, and high school students to learn and experience the history of the press; and also hosting conferences, workshops on the press, short-term training programs, issuing membership cards to the Vietnam Journalists' Association, awarding regional and local press awards... Notably, the Vietnam Journalists' Association hopes that when it comes into operation, the exhibitions on Huỳnh Thúc Kháng Journalism School and the Press of Việt Bắc War Zone at this site will not only contribute to preserving and introducing valuable press materials and artifacts from the 1946-1954 period but also affirm the significant achievements of Vietnam's Revolutionary Press in the national defense struggles and the nation-building journey.
Mr. Lê Quốc Minh, Member of the Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, General Director of the People's Newspaper, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists' Association, said: "We plan to cooperate with relevant agencies to include the Huỳnh Thúc Kháng Journalism School Historic Site in the list of tourist attractions of the 'Wind City' - the capital of the country during the resistance against the French colonialists (including Thái Nguyên, Tuyên Quang, and Bắc Kạn), with Thái Nguyên holding a special and central position in the 'Resistance Capital'.
We will also promote propaganda to the local Journalists' Associations, Journalists' Associations, and Journalists' Clubs across the country, with the aim of making all journalists aware of the importance of this relic, and from there, considering it a'red address' for journalists, especially young journalists, to visit their roots, learn about the glorious history of the press, and build a future for the national press."
