On October 11, in Tinh Bien town, the An Giang Provincial Federation of Labor held a seminar to evaluate the results of 15 years of implementing Resolution No. 20-NQ/TW dated January 28, 2008 of the Party Central Committee (10th tenure) on "Continuing to build the Vietnamese working class in the period of promoting industrialization and modernization of the country" (Resolution 20).
In his report to introduce the discussion, Mr. Nguyen Nhat Tien - Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the An Giang Provincial Federation of Labor - said that after 15 years of implementing Resolution 20, the team of workers and civil servants (CNVCLD) has received active and comprehensive support from Party committees at all levels, the government, the Front and organizations, agencies, units, enterprises, and trade unions at all levels. Thereby, paying attention to and investing in the working class to develop rapidly in quantity and quality.
In 2008, there were 42,673 employees; by the end of 2023, there were 113,642 employees working in agencies, units, enterprises and economic sectors, an increase of 70,969 employees. The labor structure has shifted strongly from rural areas to the service and industrial sectors, with the majority working in joint stock enterprises and FDI enterprises.
Workers' income and living standards have gradually improved, increasing from 3.3 million VND (2013) to 9.5 million VND/person/month (2023). The intellectual community is growing and standardizing in terms of educational level, professional skills and practical working capacity.
In particular, the relationship between employees and employers is increasingly harmonious, stable, and changing positively, the number of collective labor disputes in enterprises with trade unions has decreased sharply. This achievement is the result of the support of Party committees at all levels, the government, the Fatherland Front, organizations, agencies, units, and enterprises in the province.
Mr. Tien especially emphasized the “key” factor of Resolution 20 in raising political and ideological awareness and caring for workers. And from this Resolution, it has created conditions for Trade Unions at all levels to strengthen many programs to care for the material and spiritual life of workers.
Accordingly, every year through the "Tet Sum Vay" Program, Workers' Month and Month of Action on Occupational Safety and Hygiene, Vietnam Trade Union Foundation Day... provincial trade unions at all levels organize many activities to care for and provide welfare for union members such as: supporting money, gifts, union shelters, medical examination and treatment, free medicine consultation, discounted sales... as well as organizing recreational activities: Workers' Sports Festival, sports competitions, folk games, contests, performances...
However, besides the advantages, there are still many difficulties and limitations that affect the implementation results, so Chairman of the An Giang Provincial Federation of Labor Lam Thanh Si suggested that the delegates participate in expressing their opinions so that the implementation of Resolution 20 in the coming time will be more effective, meeting practical needs. On that basis, the discussion received 10 presentations and statements with proposals, suggesting many practical solutions for the implementation of Resolution 20 in the new situation.
