On the eve of the Lunar New Year 2025, union members and workers in Can Tho received meaningful gifts from warm hearts at the program "Tet Sum Vay - Xuan Ung Deng" and "Tet Union Market" 2025, organized by the Can Tho City Labor Federation.
Here, gifts including cash, necessities, zero-dong vouchers and preferential prices... were given directly to union members, workers, and laborers, supporting many difficult circumstances in the area.
In particular, female worker Nguyen Thi Tien (Thot Not district, Can Tho city) burst into happiness when receiving a special Tet gift, a Honda motorbike, from the program, sponsored by Hong Duc Company Limited.
Sharing with Lao Dong, Ms. Tien said that when she heard that the Trade Union at all levels created conditions to give her a motorbike, she was very surprised and happy. She couldn't sleep all night, she was both excited and emotional beyond words.
“My circumstances are very poor, I have to live in a rented house and take care of the family alone. Every day, I walk to work, I can’t afford to buy a car for transportation,” Ms. Tien said with a choked voice.
Ms. Tien is currently a worker at the Indian Ocean Seafood Frozen Factory, Indian Ocean Company Limited (Can Tho City). Her situation is particularly difficult, her husband left her, she works alone and raises two small children in a rented house.
“I don’t have good conditions to take care of my children. Currently, my 9-year-old child has to drop out of school to stay home and take care of his younger sibling, who is just over 1 year old. I love my children very much but there is no other way. Every day I try to go to work and then come home at night to cook and bathe them.”
Ms. Tien shared that she had never had a means of transportation and did not know how to ride a motorbike. Life was full of difficulties as she had to worry about everything from food to clothing for her family. A motorbike was a great dream that she never dared to think about.
On the occasion of Tet this year, she was fortunate to receive a motorbike from the Trade Union at all levels. This is not only a warm material gift but also a great source of spiritual encouragement, helping her and her children to reduce their burden and have more motivation to continue to strive to improve in life.
“I informed my children about the gift of the bike, they were very happy and told me to try to practice driving so they could take them out. This is truly a great and meaningful gift for me and my children this Tet holiday,” Ms. Tien said emotionally.
For many people, owning a motorbike is not too difficult, but for a woman with especially difficult circumstances like Ms. Tien, this is a priceless gift. Ms. Tien happily sends her sincere thanks to the Can Tho City Labor Federation and the sponsor for their concern and creating conditions for her and the workers during the Tet holiday.
The program "Tet Sum Vay - Xuan Ung Dang" and the program "Tet Union Market" 2025 in Can Tho took place for 3 days from January 11 to 13; presenting 8,800 gifts to union members and workers from the financial resources of the City Trade Union, 2,700 gifts from Party, State and City leaders; 5,000 gifts of necessities; 2,570 vouchers for online Tet market shopping;... with the total amount of the program being nearly 6 billion VND.
