Strong development of trade unions in private enterprises
The Trade Union of Economic Zones and Industrial Parks (EZs-IPs) of Quang Nam has just admitted the grassroots trade union of SGI VINA Co., Ltd., 100% Korean invested capital, in Nui Thanh district, with 209 union members.
This is the 104th grassroots trade union of the Quang Nam Economic Zones - Industrial Parks Trade Union and the 11th trade union established in 2024, exceeding the target of establishing 7 new grassroots trade unions.
Mr. Bang Jeff Seung-Tae - Director of SGI VINA Co., Ltd. shared that the enterprise was established in 2022, operating in the field of magnetic magnet production, currently has 280 employees, with an average income of 9 - 10 million VND/month.
The establishment of the Enterprise Trade Union will contribute to building harmonious and stable labor relations, building increasingly developed companies and supporting enterprises to focus on ensuring a good working environment for employees.
According to Mr. Nguyen Ky Vinh - Chairman of the Trade Union of Quang Nam Economic Zones and Industrial Parks, by the end of November, the unit increased by 4,000 thousand units, exceeding the target of increasing by 2,800 units in 2024.
“2024 was a difficult year when many businesses in Quang Nam had to temporarily suspend operations, go bankrupt, workers lost their jobs, and changed jobs, causing the number of employees to decrease by nearly 3,000 people.
In that context, we focused on promoting the establishment of trade unions in private enterprises that do not have trade unions, and developing trade unions in enterprises that already have trade unions but have not yet recruited all the members. In particular, we coordinated with the Labor Federation and the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of mountainous districts to organize job fairs, requiring enterprises to ensure suitable working conditions for employees. Thanks to that, nearly 7,000 new trade unions have been developed," said Mr. Vinh.
Protect workers' rights
As the unit that has just been voted to lead the Labor Federation of districts, towns, and cities in the delta region of Quang Nam province in 2024, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thao - President of the Labor Federation of Tam Ky city - said that the work of developing union members and establishing grassroots unions has always been focused on by the unit, mobilizing with many flexible solutions.
Tam Ky has newly established 5 grassroots trade unions and labor unions with 25 or more workers, reaching 167% and developing an additional 704 units, reaching 133% of the target for 2024.
After understanding the situation in the freelance labor force with many risks, but there is no Trade Union to protect their rights, at the end of July 2024, the City Labor Federation decided to admit members and establish the Tam Ky City Market Traders Union with nearly 600 members. This is the Union with the largest number of members in the province and is the 3rd Union under the unit (after the Tam Thanh Fisheries Union and the Union of Preschool and Private Children's Groups).
“The establishment of professional unions has helped freelance workers enjoy the policies and benefits of the Trade Union organization for workers, whether in the formal or informal sector. Thereby, reducing risks to workers, ensuring harmonious and stable labor relations,” Ms. Nguyen Thi Thao assessed.
Up to now, Quang Nam Labor Federation has achieved and exceeded 16/16 targets compared to the targets assigned by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor in 2024. Of which, nearly 15,500 new members have been admitted, an increase of about 11,000 members compared to the end of 2023, reaching more than 102% of the target assigned by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (10,600 union members); newly established 50 grassroots trade unions and grassroots unions.
Mr. Phan Xuan Quang - Chairman of the Quang Nam Provincial Federation of Labor - said that the Provincial Federation of Labor is managing 1,868 grassroots unions with more than 149,000 union members/157,600 employees. In addition to developing the union and union organizations, the unit focuses on improving collective labor agreements.
By the end of October 2024, 347/396 enterprises had negotiated and signed collective labor agreements, reaching 88%; many collective labor agreements had many provisions higher than the law's regulations for employees, suitable to the capabilities and conditions of the enterprise, focusing on basic issues such as: wages, welfare regimes, working hours, rest hours, sick visits, sudden hardship allowances, funerals, birthdays of union members, sightseeing and vacations, etc.
