Seeing An struggling to take care of her disabled, foolish husband and being treated harshly and cruelly by her mother-in-law, Ty's heart ached. He wanted to take An out of that house because he could not let her continue to suffer.
Once, while lurking around the gate, Ty was almost discovered. He hurriedly left and accidentally stepped on a piece of broken glass. Just then, Mr. Tu (Quach Ho Ninh) passed by and saw him, so he helped Ty treat his wound.
Another time, An and Truc (Le Tam Trieu Dang) went to the market, just as they reached the gate, Ty blocked their way. An turned pale, pulled Ty away and told Truc not to tell anyone about this. Ty tried his best to convince An to run away with him. An flatly refused, forbade Ty from coming to find her, and did not want him to appear before her again.
Truc realized that An and Ty had a special relationship, so she worriedly asked her sister. An told Truc that Ty loved her but she only saw Ty as a brother, without any feelings.
Using the excuse of worrying about Truc's happiness, An urged Truc to marry Ty. Truc brushed it off, not wanting An to make random arrangements. She and Ty had no special feelings for each other, so how could they be together? An still tried to use many arguments to manipulate Truc, despite Truc's resolute attitude. In fact, deep down, An did not want Truc to marry a rich man and live a happier life than her.
Meeting again in an ironic situation, when their two identities were now different, both Truc and Thinh (Bach Cong Khanh) were inconsolable. Seeing Thinh in such a state, Truc felt extremely heartbroken, blaming herself for not being able to do anything to help him. Thinh also silently apologized to Truc, his beloved was in trouble while he had to stand aside, unable to hold her in his arms and comfort her.
