In the summer of 2024, striker Raheem Sterling joined Arsenal on loan. After a poor time playing at Chelsea, the English player wanted to reunite with coach Mikel Arteta, who he worked with at Man City.
Originally expected to have limited playing time, Sterling has been given a chance by Martin Odegaard's injury. In eight appearances this season, the Chelsea star has scored one goal and provided one assist, but has not contributed any goals in the Premier League.
Liverpool legend Steve Nicol believes Sterling is too harmless, according to ESPN: “Honestly, what has he done? He hasn’t done anything. I mean, at least he should have played to give Martinelli and Saka a break and help his teammates play better.
That's why Arsenal bought Sterling. He should use his experience, push the other two better, create competition and shine when he gets the chance. But he hasn't done anything, no. Of course I don't expect too much from Sterling, but when you buy a useless player, it's not good at all."
Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit also agreed with Sterling: "Raheem Sterling is the most disappointing signing of the summer. The environment at Chelsea is not good for him, but that is not an excuse.
Since he left Man City, his poor form explains why they let him go. I think he has earned too much money and has lost his hunger, his goals.”
Sterling's poor form has somewhat slowed Arsenal down this season. They are currently fourth in the Premier League, nine points behind leaders Liverpool.
