Houses that warm people's hearts
In mid-July 2025, the pace of life across the mountainous villages of Quang Tri is bustling with the construction site of new roofs. Hundreds of houses are being urgently completed, bringing hope for a more stable and decent life for poor, near-poor households and ethnic minorities.
No longer a distant dream, the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses has become a reality for Mr. Dinh Xuan Luu's family in Kim Phu commune, Quang Tri province.
The house was repaired spaciously, with a fresh red tiled roof instead of the old, cramped corrugated iron sheets. Mr. Luu was moved to receive support from youth union members in transporting materials, dismantling, repairing and encouraging his family throughout the implementation process.
"Previously, the house was dilapidated, the family did not dare to dream of renovating it. Now that the State has paid attention to us, the Youth Union has come to help each brick and corrugated iron plate, we are very touched. The new house is the last joy of life, a solid shelter from the rain and wind in old age, Mr. Dinh Xuan Luu shared.
In Ka Ai village (Dan Hoa commune), Ms. Ho Thi Mang, a lonely elderly woman, has just been supported to build a solid house after many years of living in a dilapidated wooden roof, every rainy and stormy season is a heartbreaking one. The new house is not only a shelter from the sun and rain, but also a vivid testament to the spirit of mutual love and support, the companionship of the government, border guards and youth union members.
Mobilizing people's strength, uniting the whole society
The program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses has been implemented vigorously and synchronously. Quang Tri province has mobilized the participation of the entire political system, in which mass organizations, armed forces, businesses, individuals... have contributed tens of thousands of working days, hundreds of tons of materials and tens of billions of VND to build houses for the poor.

Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Quang Tri province said that this is not only an important political program, but also a "sage and responsibility" of the government towards the people. To ensure on- schedule implementation, the province has completed the Provincial Steering Committee, guiding localities to arrange appropriate models to avoid interruptions after the merger of administrative boundaries.
In localities, surveys, lists, and construction organization are all closely monitored. Not only a place to shelter from rain and wind, each house is also a foundation for people to feel secure in production, develop the economy and improve the quality of life.
Mr. Le Ngoc Quang - Secretary of the Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee emphasized: "The program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses is a vivid demonstration for the government to serve the people. This is an order from the heart, demonstrating the political and moral commitment of the Party and State to the people, especially in remote border areas.
The atmosphere of building new houses and the joy of the people spread into a great driving force, promoting the spirit of overcoming difficulties, the aspiration to escape poverty and develop sustainably. The solid houses that have sprung up in the midst of the great Truong Son or between the villages in remote areas are proof of the results of the solidarity between the "Party - People's Heart".
When a family has a new house, it is the beginning of a journey to stabilize their lives, take care of their children, and increase production. When a village no longer has fancy roofs, it is the foundation for a change in the face of mountainous areas, an extension of a solid life in the border of the Fatherland.
