Over 70 billion VND for 13 environmental projects
According to Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Da Nang City Pham Nam Son, implementing the policy of extensive integration between the Party and the State, in the period of 2021 - 2025, the city has proactively connected and cooperated with more than 10 international organizations, implementing 13 programs and projects with a total cost of more than 70 billion VND.

This resource focuses on urgent areas: solid waste management, waste classification at source, reduction of plastic waste, water protection and climate change adaptation.
Notable among them is the project "Promoting waste classification at source and recycling (3R)" funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), within the framework of cooperation between Da Nang and Yokohama city, with a total cost of 15.63 billion VND. The project supports the construction of a recyclable waste collection and treatment system according to Japanese standard procedures, while gradually changing habits and raising people's awareness of waste classification.
The two projects "Joining hands to protect water resources" and "Reducing plastic waste pollution with local solutions" funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), with a total budget of more than 13 billion VND, are being effectively implemented. Activities focus on plastic waste management and water quality monitoring in some coastal areas, contributing to reducing pollution pressure on the Da Nang marine environment.

From April 2025, Da Nang and the old Quang Nam province will implement the project "Promoting community participation in implementing the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) target" sponsored by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), expected to last until 2027. The project focuses on enhancing the role of the community in nature conservation, biodiversity protection, and sustainable livelihood development.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, international cooperation programs not only bring investment capital but also help the city access modern management methods and technology. Many pilot models such as waste classification at source, "green" residential areas, energy saving... have been replicated, contributing to improving the quality of the urban environment and raising public awareness.
Expanding the partner network, towards carbon neutrality by 2050
Da Nang is developing a project "Da Nang - a low-emission city", focusing on groups of solutions: reducing the use of fossil fuels, increasing the proportion of renewable energy; promoting green transportation; developing ecological urban areas according to the "no net emissions" model, towards carbon neutrality by 2050.

In addition to the projects under implementation, the city also participates in many global initiatives such as the World Cities Programme of the World Bank, the ASEAN Smart City Program, and cooperates with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in projects to improve environmental management capacity and enhance urban adaptation to natural disasters.
Thanks to those efforts, in 2024, Da Nang will lead 63 provinces and cities nationwide in implementing the Environmental Protection Index (PEPI) with a total score of 73.33 points. This is the second consecutive year the city has led the rankings.

Mr. Pham Nam Son - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Da Nang emphasized that promoting international cooperation in the environmental field is opening up many opportunities for Da Nang to develop sustainably, improve management capacity, and approach advanced trends in the world. The cooperation programs not only bring finance, technology, and knowledge but also contribute to arousing a sense of responsibility and awareness of environmental protection in the community.
