According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the Department of Hydro-Meteorology, the weather in the North and Central regions is about to fluctuate due to consecutive cold air waves.
The reporter had an interview with Mr. Nguyen Van Huong - Head of Weather Forecast Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting about the upcoming notable weather patterns.

Sir, after a series of days of humid mud, the North has returned to a sunny state today, what is the cause?
- Currently, the cold air continues to strengthen and weaken to the south. At Bach Long Vi monitoring station, there were strong northeast winds of level 5, sometimes level 6, gusting to level 7.
Due to the influence of weakly strengthened cold air combined with high-altitude phases, the Northern region, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An will experience few clouds and sunny days. From the night of November 12 to November 15, this situation will continue.
During the nights from November 12 to 15, the lowest temperature in the Northern region, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An will drop sharply, generally between 16 and 18 degrees Celsius, in the mountainous areas of the North, some places will be below 13 degrees Celsius. The night and early morning in these areas will be cold, in the high mountains, some places will be very cold.
When is the cold air forecast to be stronger, causing the average daily temperature to drop, sir?
- Through monitoring and analyzing the current status of the weather system and forecast products, we see that from about November 16 to 21, there is a possibility of a strong cold air mass affecting the Northern and Central provinces. In which the North and Thanh Hoa - Ha Tinh provinces are cold; the high mountains of the North are likely to have frost.
Due to the influence of strong cold air, the North East Sea area (including Hoang Sa special zone) has strong northeast winds of level 7, some places have level 8, gusting to level 9 - 10; waves 3 - 5 m high, rough seas. In the Gulf of Tonkin, the northeast wind is likely to strengthen to level 6 - 7, gusting to level 8 - 9; waves 2.5 - 3.5 m high, rough seas.
Cold air is a typical rainfall in the North. So is the upcoming strong cold air likely to cause heavy rain in the Central region, sir?
- Due to the influence of strong cold air combined with high-altitude easterly wind disturbances, it is forecasted that from the night of November 15, the area from Quang Tri to Khanh Hoa is likely to experience a large-scale heavy rain, lasting for many days. In which, the heavy to very heavy rain will be concentrated in the area from Hue city to Da Nang city, east of Quang Ngai and Gia Lai provinces.
These are dangerous weather and hydrological conditions with a high risk of occurring between November 16 and 22. The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting will continue to closely monitor and provide regular information based on the specific developments of each type of natural disaster.
Sincerely thank you!
