In the face of complicated floods in the Central region, Mr. Hoang Phuc Lam - Deputy Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, Department of Hydro-Meteorology - has made the latest comments on the weather situation in the coming days.

Mr. Lam, please update on the situation of heavy rain and floods in the South Central region last night and early this morning, and what notable developments are forecasted in the coming time?
- Last night and this morning, November 20, the flood of Ky Lo River (Dak Lak) exceeded the historical flood in 2009; the flood of Ba River (Dak Lak) exceeded the historical flood in 1993; Dinh Ninh Hoa River (Khanh Hoa) exceeded the historical flood in 1986.
Currently, on November 20, floods on Kon River, Ky Lo River, Ba River, Dinh Ninh Hoa River; Cai Nha Trang River, Cai Phan Rang River (Khanh Hoa) are at a very high level, above BD3 by about 0.2 - 2.12m; floods on Krong Ana River, Cerpepok (Dak Lak) are below BD3.
In the next 6 hours, the flood on the Ba River will fluctuate at a high level and above level 3 (equivalent to the historical flood level in 1993 of 5.21m), then slowly recede.
Assessing the current flood situation and forecasting in the coming days, sir?
- It is forecasted that in the next 24 hours, rain from the morning of November 20 to the night of November 21 will tend to be concentrated in the east of Dak Lak and the north of Khanh Hoa. The common rainfall is 100 - 200mm, locally over 350mm; this makes the risk of flash floods and landslides in coastal areas and the South Central Highlands still very high.
Along with that, floods on Cai Nha Trang River have peaked and are receding; floods on Dinh Ninh Hoa River, Cai Phan Rang River (Khanh Hoa), Krong Ana River (Dak Lak) are rising; Huong River, Bo River (Hue City), Kon River (Gia Lai) and other rivers from Da Nang City to Khanh Hoa are receding.
Given the complicated developments of floods in the South Central region, what recommendations do you have for local authorities and people to proactively respond and minimize damage in the coming days?
- Flash floods and landslides can have a very negative impact on the environment, threaten people's lives; cause local traffic congestion, affect the movement of vehicles; destroy civil and economic works, causing damage to production activities and socio-economic activities.
The meteorological agency recommends that local authorities pay attention to reviewing bottlenecks and vulnerable locations in the area to take preventive and response measures.
