In 2024, there were 10 storms and 1 tropical depression in the East Sea, at a level close to the average of many years. Of which, storm No. 3 Yagi is considered the strongest in 30 years in the East Sea.
Forecast information about the trend of the 2025 storm season is of interest to the people.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Huong - Head of Weather Forecasting Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the forecast time for storms and tropical depressions in 2025 in the East Sea is equivalent to the average of many years, around June.

"The number of storms and tropical depressions in 2025 is forecast to be equivalent to the average of many years, which is about 11 - 13 storms and tropical depressions appearing in the East Sea. Of which, about 1/2, or about 5 - 6 storms, tropical depressions are likely to affect our mainland" - Mr. Huong said.
Previously, the world's extreme weather events in 2024 include storms and floods including Hurricane Milton in Florida, which caused widespread power outages to more than 3 million people, and severe flooding in Northeast India and Bangladesh affecting hundreds of thousands of people. Within 1 month (from October 27, 2024 to November 20, 2024), there were 5 consecutive super typhoons making landfall in the Philippines, including: typhoon Kong-rey, typhoon Yinxing, typhoon Toraji, typhoon Usagi and typhoon Manyi.
Mr. Nguyen Van Huong analyzed that the global warming trend creates conditions for the development of storms.
"In the future trend, the risk of strong storms and super typhoons will appear more frequently than in history" - Mr. Huong commented.
According to the Report of the Intergovernmental Committee on Climate Change, if global temperatures increase by 1 degree Celsius, the destructive power of the storm will increase by an average of 40%. In fact, compared to pre-industrial times, global temperatures have increased by 1.3 degrees Celsius, so sudden storms are also becoming more common.
