On December 7, Binh Thuan Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited said that Song Quao and Song Luy lakes have begun to increase water discharge from 5am the same day.
The discharge to regulate water through the spillway aims to maintain flood prevention capacity and ensure safety of works in the context of a tropical depression that is likely to cause heavy rain.

Binh Thuan Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited has sent a notice to Phan Son, Song Luyen, Luong Son, Hong Thai, Bac Binh and Phan Ba Cua communes, the water level of Song Luyen lake at 3:00 p.m. on December 6.
The two above-mentioned irrigation lakes increased their water discharge to an elevation of +129.78 m, exceeding the normal level by 0.28 m and continued to increase, with water flow through the free overflow level of about 15 m3/s.
At the same time, the operator said that the amount of water regulated downstream during this period ranges from 60 to 150 m3/s, depending on the actual situation.
The company recommends that local authorities promptly notify people in the downstream area to proactively take preventive measures and limit damage when heavy rain continues to occur.
During the recent historic flood, the fact that lakes were forced to release large amounts of water was considered one of the reasons why many downstream areas were deeply flooded, causing heavy damage to people's houses, crops, and property.
