High mountain areas are prone to frost, ice and hoarfrost. Severe cold, frost, ice and hoarfrost can affect crops and livestock.

The North and Thanh Hoa - Nghe An region have the lowest temperature commonly 9 - 12 degrees Celsius, the mountainous areas of the North 6 - 9 degrees Celsius, high mountainous areas have places below 3 degrees Celsius. The average temperature is 13 - 15 degrees Celsius; the mountainous and midland areas of the North 12 - 14 degrees Celsius, some places below 12 degrees Celsius.

Ha Tinh and Quang Binh have the lowest temperature of about 13 - 15 degrees Celsius; average temperature of 16 - 19 degrees Celsius.

The area from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai has the lowest temperature of about 16 - 18 degrees Celsius; average temperature of 18 - 20 degrees Celsius.
