Mr. Vu Anh Tuan - Deputy Head of Division Weather Forecast, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that around October 22 - 23, another cold air mass will be added to the northern provinces. The intensity of this cold air mass is stronger and will directly affect the weather in the northern provinces.
"The northern provinces will have rain and temperatures will drop. It will get cold at night and in the morning. Strong winds in the Gulf of Tonkin could increase to level 6, gusting to level 7 - level 8," said Mr. Vu Anh Tuan about the impact of the strengthening cold air.
The area from Thanh Hoa to Quang Ngai from the night of October 20 to October 22 is forecast to have moderate to heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain with rainfall from 40 - 90mm, locally over 150mm. Warning of the risk of local heavy rain (rainfall greater than 100mm within 6 hours).
The area from South Nghe An to Binh Dinh from the night of October 22 to October 23 is forecast to have moderate to heavy rain, locally very heavy rain and thunderstorms with rainfall from 30 - 50mm, locally over 80mm. The cause of this rain is the influence of additional cold air combined with high-altitude easterly wind disturbances.
In the Central Highlands and the South, in the late afternoon and evening of October 20, there is forecast to be scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain with rainfall from 15 - 30mm, locally over 70mm.
The meteorological agency warns that thunderstorms may cause tornadoes, lightning, and strong gusts of wind. The level of natural disaster risk due to heavy rain, tornadoes, and lightning is level 1. Localized heavy rains may cause flooding in low-lying areas; flash floods on small rivers and streams; and landslides on steep slopes.
