Recently, the garbage collection point under Binh Thuy 2 bridge (Binh Thuy district, Can Tho city) has caused serious pollution, unpleasant odor, directly affecting the health, daily life and business of many households living around the area, causing many people to be upset and complain.
According to many households, this garbage dump is located right on the main road, adjacent to a green park, a place for people to live, relax, and exercise.
On the afternoon of December 25, speaking with Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Luong Si Nam - Head of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Binh Thuy District - said that because the waste treatment plant is undergoing maintenance, the waste collection is still slow. Currently, the waste is transported 4-6 times a day. According to Mr. Nam, the district also provided information to some wards to disseminate to the people.
The Head of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Binh Thuy district added that the district has coordinated with the collection unit to spray deodorant to reduce odors, focus on sanitation, and resolve environmental pollution.
According to the reporter's observation, this garbage dump is surrounded by corrugated iron. The garbage is dumped in large piles, causing an unpleasant odor. Garbage transport vehicles move in and out continuously.
Living and doing business right next to the garbage collection point, Ms. Nguyen Thi Trang shared that in the morning or afternoon, there are many workers carrying garbage from various places to the bridge for collection. That directly affects her family's business.
“Before there was no garbage dump, my family sold about 200 glasses of various drinks a day, but now we can’t sell even a quarter of that. We have to yawn and yawn to sell one glass of water,” Ms. Trang said indignantly.
Ms. Trang said she is over 60 years old and has had to go for regular respiratory check-ups for the past 2 years.
Mr. Nguyen Huynh Tam (65 years old) said: In the past, every morning and afternoon, people came to the park to exercise in large numbers because there were many trees and fresh air. Since the garbage collection point was established, no one dares to go to the park anymore.
