Rich potential to develop traditional occupations associated with ecotourism
Bach Thuan garden village belongs to Bach Thuan commune (Vu Thu district, Thai Binh province ) located about 13km from the center of Thai Binh city. Bach Thuan commune's location easily connects with provinces and urban areas in the Northern coastal region, favorable for socio-economic development and trade.
Located adjacent to Tan De bridge - the gateway to Thai Binh province, Bach Thuan also has many advantages to develop community eco-tourism when meeting all conditions of traffic, garden village resources, and cultural heritage. , lifestyle, traditional customs...

“Bach Thuan has long had a traditional profession of growing and caring for flower trees, fruit trees, ornamental plants and medicinal herbs. For example, flowers, flowers, Tet flowers; fruit trees such as grapefruit, longan, apple, guava and various ornamental plants. With inherent advantages, Bach Thuan has all the characteristics of a lush, green ecological area with all kinds of plants and fruits.
Every house in the craft village owns large gardens, rich in potential to build a professional ecological garden house model," said Mr. Tran Ngoc Son - a resident of Binh Minh village (Bach Thuan commune, district). Vu Thu) - said.

According to Mr. Son, in Bach Thuan commune there are 8 traditional wooden houses dating back over 100 years old, 5 wooden houses dating from 86 to over 90 years old are currently being used and preserved by families. These are also considered interesting destinations for tourists because they are traditional and folk beauties.
Environmental pollution - the biggest barrier to developing ecotourism
Besides the traditional craft village of growing ornamental plants and medicinal herbs, Bach Thuan is also known as a typical locality and a bright spot in livestock development, especially pig farming in Vu Thu district and Thai Binh province.
Since the 2000s, the locality has focused on developing pig farming. At one time, the total herd of pigs in the whole commune reached 30,000 heads, accounting for 10% of the total pig herd of the entire Vu Thu district. After that, due to the epidemic, pigs lost their value, so the number of pigs decreased a lot. Currently, in the entire Bach Thuan commune, there are still about 300 households, farms, and farms that continue to raise pigs after the African cholera epidemic was controlled. with a total herd of about 7,000 - 8,000 animals. Among them, there are about 23 farms and ranches raising livestock with large quantities from 200 - 700 animals/1 facility.
In recent times, environmental pollution from waste discharge activities during the pig raising process of households, farms, and ranches in Bach Thuan commune has become more painful and severe every day.

Mr. Trinh Dang Anh (a resident of Tien Phong village, Bach Thuan commune) said boredly: "Recently, we submitted an application to all levels and branches from the province to the district about households raising livestock in residential areas and gardens. farming fields but there are no measures to treat waste but directly discharge pig manure into the environment and canals.
Water sources as well as people's living environment are seriously affected due to the stench from pig manure that accumulates over a long period of time, creating conditions for disease-causing organisms to develop. The superiors keep saying that propaganda will turn Bach Thuan into a garden village eco-tourism area, but with this pollution situation, the people here can't stand it, so no tourists dare to come."

Regarding this issue, Mr. Nguyen Kim Sau - Chairman of Bach Thuan Commune People's Committee - shared that environmental pollution from pig farming activities in the commune has appeared for a long time and is becoming more and more difficult and complicated.
“Currently, the locality is urgently planning and organizing the implementation of the project "Economic development associated with Bach Thuan garden village eco-tourism", contributing to increasing income for local people and promoting the image of Bach Thuan garden village. Photo of Bach Thuan garden village. However, these efforts are still not enough because the biggest barrier is environmental pollution.
During the last commune People's Council meeting, we almost only focused on discussing and discussing issues related to the environment. At this time, the commune has also assigned a working group to conduct a general inspection and review of the current status of pig farming activities throughout the commune to synthesize a report to the District People's Committee from which to propose solutions to handle and resolve the issue. decided in the near future. Surely it will take a long roadmap and time to solve this problem," said Mr. Nguyen Kim Sau.
