After many years, sea turtles reappeared in Nha Trang Bay

Khanh Hoa - Sea turtles appearing in Hon Mun sea area (Nha Trang Bay) shows that the quality of the marine environment in this area is changing positively.

On the morning of October 8, Mr. Huynh Binh Thai - Head of Nha Trang Bay Management - confirmed that a sea turtle had just appeared in the Hon Mun sea area, recorded by the management's dash cam on October 4.

Nha Trang Bay Management Board assessed that the appearance of sea turtles is a positive signal, proving that the marine environment in Nha Trang Bay is recovering well.

During their life cycle, sea turtles experience many different habitats. They are born on sandy beaches; grow up in coral reefs and then, as adults, drift along the ocean currents in the deep ocean.

Because of their special habitat, it is very difficult to encounter sea turtles in the sea, requiring that sea area to have clean water quality and abundant food sources.

Normally, sea turtles take 30 - 50 years to reach adulthood, but only one in 1,000 survives to this stage.

Previously in 2022, the locality had zoned off the area for turtles to lay eggs in the Bai Bang Lon area - the last breeding ground for sea turtles in Nha Trang Bay.
