According to Associate Professor, Dr. Mai Van Khiem - Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, General Department of Hydro-Meteorology, from November 3, the Central region may be affected by a combination of some bad weather patterns causing heavy rain, including: low-lying vortex in the south and middle of the East Sea; the influence of continuously strengthened cold air combined with strong easterly winds at altitudes from 1,500 - 5,000m.
From November 3 to November 5, the North Central and South Central regions are likely to experience heavy rain, locally very heavy rain and thunderstorms with rainfall ranging from 100 - 200mm, locally over 300mm. Particularly, the Ha Tinh to Da Nang region will experience rainfall ranging from 200 - 400mm, locally over 500mm.
From November 6, heavy rain will continue and is likely to move down to the area from Ha Tinh to Binh Dinh.
Associate Professor Dr. Mai Van Khiem said that heavy rain in the central provinces is likely to last for many days.
The meteorological agency warns that the risk of natural disasters caused by heavy rain, tornadoes, and lightning is level 1, and level 2 in the area from Ha Tinh to Da Nang. Localized heavy rains can cause flooding in low-lying areas; flash floods on small rivers and streams, and landslides on steep slopes.
