Ben Tre - The province has proactively arranged free freshwater supply points, helping people stabilize their lives, no longer lining up to wait for water like in previous years.

According to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters on the afternoon of April 9, in Quoi Son commune (Chau Thanh district, Ben Tre province), freshwater supply points in densely populated locations have been arranged and put into use.

People here said that they are provided with free soft drinks, so the use of water has become more convenient and stable than in previous years of drought and salinity. There is no longer a scene of having to wait too long, the water source is guaranteed, there is no shortage of water when coming to pick and use.

Mr. Tan Van Vo (residing in Quoi Son commune, Chau Thanh district, Ben Tre province) shared: "This year, thanks to the free water supply point, my family no longer has to go far or buy water at high prices like a few years ago. Every day, I come to get about 60 liters to use for daily use".

Similar to Mr. Vo, Mr. Khanh shared: "This year the drought and salinity are not severe, the local government has proactively established free freshwater supply points in the area, ensuring 24/7 water supply, thereby ensuring the daily life of the people".

"In contrast to the situation in previous years where people had to wait in line to collect water, local authorities have proactively established and arranged free freshwater supply points early so that people could come to get water for use. In addition, before the Lunar New Year 2025, people have also proactively stored fresh water, so this year the shortage of fresh water does not happen," said Mr. Khanh.

Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, a leader of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ben Tre province affirmed: "We are committed to ensuring fresh water for people during the 2024-2025 drought and salinity period".

According to this leader, after many consecutive years of being affected by drought and salinity, the locality has accumulated experience and had quick and drastic intervention. Up to now, local people have basically ensured fresh water for use.

"The locality has made a specific and detailed plan to provide fresh water to people during the 2024-2025 drought and salinity.

Accordingly, the commune and district level will use local resources to supply water to people. If exceeding the possibility, will report directly to the province. Immediately, the provincial authorities will mobilize and arrange vehicles and human resources to provide fresh water to the locality, helping people to have free fresh water to use, ”said the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ben Tre Province.
