Before that, Mr. Dung and Mr. Lam had been brave enough to risk their lives to save 3 people trapped in the rushing water of Dong Nai 2 Hydropower Reservoir.
Directly awarding the award, Colonel Dinh Hong Tieng, Commander of Lam Dong Provincial Military Command, acknowledged and commended the outstanding achievements of Mr. Do Thanh Dung and Mr. Vu Chi Lam.

As reported by Lao Dong Newspaper: On the afternoon of July 16, in the Dong Nai 2 Hydropower Reservoir area, there was heavy rain for many hours, causing water from upstream to flow into Dong Nai 2 Hydropower Reservoir in Dinh Trang Thuong commune to rise.
At the same time, a family of 5 were hanging out on a small island in the middle of Dong Nai 2 Hydropower Reservoir.
At this time, Dong Nai Hydropower Plant 2 released floodwaters, causing the lake's water to quickly rise, creating waves and flowing rapidly.
Seeing that, the two people promptly moved to shore safely, the remaining 3 people, Mr. Do Thanh Tr (32 years old), Ms. Tran Thi Th (39 years old) and Tran Thi Khanh L (12 years old) could not get to shore in time and were stuck.
Upon receiving the report, the People's Committee of Dinh Trang Thuong commune mobilized the police force and the Commune Military Command and local people to deploy measures to rescue people in distress.
Thanks to being familiar with the area and knowing how to swim, Mr. Do Thanh Dung and Mr. Vu Chi Lam volunteered to participate in the rescue. They coordinated to row a boat across floodwaters to rescue 3 people trapped and bring them safely to shore.
The brave actions of Mr. Dung and Mr. Lam moved the authorities and people, and they were applauded.
