After the 2024 US Open, Novak Djokovic is in Turin (Italy) to compete with the Serbian team in the Davis Cup. Outside of competition, Nole's family life was mentioned when asked about his relationship with his two children.
Accordingly, Djokovic publicly discussed the disagreement between him and his wife, Jelena, about their children's use of mobile phones.
Djokovic and Jelena have been high school sweethearts and married in 2014. They have two children, Stefan, 9, and Tara, 7. The two children and Jelena are often in the stands watching Djokovic compete, including this year's Davis Cup.
In an interview, Djokovic shared an aspect of his family life. "My children still don't have mobile phones, my wife and I argued (about that)," Djokovic revealed to Blic.
"The kids grumbled, 'At school, everyone has one except us.' It's not easy and it shows in other things too. If everyone else is doing something, in the herd mentality, you have to follow them.
For me, it doesn't have to be like that. This is where I think we're different from others, because we're tough and dynamic."
Djokovic has previously said that he prefers to take a more traditional approach to raising his children, stressing the importance of keeping them active.
"In the two of us, I am the one responsible for the activities, sports, healthy lifestyle of the children," he said in an interview with Tennis Channel while competing at Wimbledon this year.
Standing nearby, Jelena watched as he shared: "I want my children to... - she was rolling her eyes as I was speaking (pointing at Jelena and laughing). I constantly remind them of the importance of being active, playing sports.
I mean whether it's tennis or anything, just being active, being outdoors. So I try to get my family playing tennis every day, even if it's a match day, I want them here with me."
Djokovic's plans after the Davis Cup are still being speculated. He recently admitted that his future schedule will not be too packed with tournaments. Instead, he has chosen to focus on playing for Serbia and participating in Grand Slams.
