Two relics in Hai Phong testify to the crimes of French colonialism

Lam Dong Communal House is located in Lam Dong Commune, Thuy Nguyen District, Hai Phong City. In addition to the name that villagers often call Ca Communal House, the communal house also has the Chinese name Hoa Lac Communal House.

Mr. Dao Van Mam - 86 years old, a person who is passionate about Lam Dong Communal House, said: After two resistance wars against France and America, Lam Dong Communal House built in 1931-1935 was completely destroyed. In 1994, the government and people joined hands to restore the communal house on the old foundation. The architecture of the new communal house has changed compared to before. If the communal house used to have 5 compartments, now there are only 3 compartments, mainly made of Ninh Van stone (Ninh Binh) and ironwood.

The main palace worships the six village tutelary gods, the second palace worships the six village generals who contributed to the Bach Dang battle in 1288.

The three palaces are solemnly decorated and are places to worship heroic martyrs.

Also according to the History of the Hai Phong City Party Committee, on February 17, 1947, the French invaded Thuy Nguyen. In that sweep, more than 30 people in Lam Dong were killed. On February 16 and 17, 1949, the enemy swept and killed 108 soldiers and people in front of the Hoa Lac communal house and Sung Nguyen pagoda. The pagoda's Thuong Nguyen festival was also the village's death anniversary. According to Mr. Dao Van Mam, during the resistance war against the French, the people of Lam Dong suffered much pain and loss. Therefore, many young people in Lam village at that time were determined to go to protect the Fatherland with the spirit of "living with red chests, dying with green grass". The whole commune had more than 220 martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the two resistance wars.

Lam Dong Communal House is an extremely valuable asset of the local people, associated with the tradition of revolutionary struggle, village protection, and resistance to natural disasters, storms, floods, and epidemics. Considering its multifaceted value, Lam Dong Communal House has been recognized as a historical and cultural relic by the City People's Committee in Decision No. 161-QD/UBND dated January 27, 2011.

In front of Lam Dong communal house is Lake 108 - a historical relic of Hai Phong city's resistance war. In 1969 - exactly twenty years after the massacre on February 16 and 17, 1949, with the purpose of respecting and honoring the sacrifices of the previous generation for the independence and freedom of the nation, the government and people of Lam Dong commune built a memorial in the Lam Dong lake area to commemorate the officers, soldiers and patriotic people who were murdered.

After a period of deterioration, Thuy Nguyen district restored and embellished the lake with sustainable materials and architecture in harmony with the landscape on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of Thuy Nguyen Uprising Tradition Day (October 25, 1948 - October 25, 2014).

In the relic area of Lake 108, there is a gilded statue and two large reliefs proving the war crimes that French colonialists caused to the people of Lam Dong village.

Currently, Lam Dong Lake is a meaningful address for educating the people about patriotic and revolutionary traditions, especially the young generations.
