    Hai Duong - Storm No. 3 has caused many kumquat growers in Thanh Ha, Hai Duong to worry about a decrease in Tet revenue, while some households have protected their kumquat gardens, promising to earn big profits.

    Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh’s family (Lai Xa 2 village, Thanh Tan commune, Thanh Ha district) is a household with a lot of experience in growing kumquat trees for Tet. With many years of experience in the profession, Mr. Thanh has proactively protected his kumquat garden from storm No. 3.

    Before storm No. 3 hit, Mr. Thanh carefully built a mound and wrapped plastic to create a solid base for all the kumquat trees in the garden, ensuring that the roots would not be damaged by strong winds or flooding.

    “By January 7, all the kumquat trees in the garden had been purchased by customers. Thanks to the ability to keep the kumquat garden lush after the storm, I am confident of earning more than 400 million VND from this Lunar New Year,” said Mr. Thanh.

    Mr. Ba said that more than 100 kumquat trees were completely damaged and could not be restored. The remaining trees were also severely affected by strong winds, causing the fruits to be small, scratched, and lose their natural beauty. Many newly planted and restored trees did not ripen in time for Tet.
    “San luong quat cua gia dinh nam nay giam toi 40% so voi nam ngoai. Dong thoi voi chat luong cay khong dat yeu cau nhu hien tai, lo rang viec tieu thu quat canh dip Tet Nguyen dan se gap kho khan”, ong Ba chia se.
    “My family’s kumquat output this year has decreased by 40% compared to last year. At the same time, with the current substandard quality of the trees, I am worried that selling kumquat trees during Tet will be difficult,” Mr. Ba shared.
