A coffee shop on Pham Van Dong Street, Bac Tu Liem District, caught fire late on December 18, killing 11 people. Police have cordoned off and are investigating the scene.
On the morning of December 19, according to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, the scene of the fire at the cafe on Pham Van Dong Street was blocked off by authorities for investigation.The house was devastated after the tragic fire.Immediately after receiving news of the fire, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long and Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh arrived at the scene to direct rescue work.This morning (December 19), many people living near the scene of the fire were still shocked when recalling the incident.As one of the people who witnessed the fire, Mr. Nguyen Trung Hieu said: "Around 11:00 p.m., I heard people shouting "fire, fire". Seeing that, I ran outside and saw the fire was very fierce. My house is right behind the scene, so I immediately ran back to tell everyone in the house to run outside".According to Mr. Hieu, when the fire broke out, some people ran to the upper floors and signaled for help, but because the fire was so fierce that it blocked the exit to the first floor, no one could do anything.The fire killed 11 people.
As previously reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, at around 11:00 p.m. on December 18, a fire broke out in a three-story house with an attic at 258 Pham Van Dong Street, Co Nhue 2 Ward, Bac Tu Liem District. The house is about 40 square meters wide, facing the Pham Van Dong overpass, with a wide sidewalk in front of it with about 5-6 motorbikes and a car parked there. On the right is an empty lot with three cars parked, on the left is a one-story mechanical workshop with a corrugated iron roof.
Smoke and fire rose from the first floor, then spread to the floors and to the mechanical workshop next door. At the time of the fire, there were more than 10 people in the cafe. Everyone tried to escape, but the exit to the first floor was blocked by fire, and black smoke was rising to the upper floors. Some people ran to the balcony of the third floor to call for help. The fire killed 11 people.
