Visit Hai Phong to see the hundred-year-old banyan tree next to Le Hop communal house relic

Le Hop Communal House is the only relic in the old Tam Da commune (now merged with Nhan Hoa and Vinh Quang communes to form Vinh Hung commune, Vinh Bao district, Hai Phong) recognized as a national historical and cultural relic. The communal house worships Thanh Hoang Pham Dam (Pham Dam), one of the generals of the Trung Sisters who participated in the uprising against the Eastern Han invaders in the 1st century.

Not only preserving many valuable worship objects dating from the 18th century to the early 20th century such as the dragon pavilion, incense table, statues of civil and military mandarins..., Le Hop communal house also owns a system of ancient trees, notably a banyan tree about 110 years old.

According to legend, the tree was planted by a monk more than 110 years ago and is called the Bald Banyan Tree by the villagers. In April 2015, the banyan tree in Le Hop communal house was recognized as a Vietnamese heritage tree. At the time of recognition, the banyan tree in the Le Hop communal house grounds was the 78th heritage tree of Hai Phong and the 6th tree of Vinh Bao district. After 10 years, the stele certifying the heritage tree has faded over time, but the banyan tree is still standing tall and green all year round.

The tree is 30 m tall and about 5 m in circumference. The tree has 4 secondary trunks formed by roots at a height of 2 to 2.5 m.

About 3 meters from the base of the tree, hundreds of branches and leaves spread out, like strong "arms" reaching far away.

The Troc banyan tree is green all year round thanks to the care and preservation of the Le Hop villagers. The banyan tree is located next to the well and the communal house yard, creating a typical beauty of the Vietnamese countryside in the relic site.

The raspberry-shaped canopy extends in all four directions, covering an area of about 500 square meters, providing shade for the communal house yard, village roads, and alleys. Mr. Nguyen Tien Duy - Head of the Communal House Festival Committee of Le Hop - said: When storm No. 3 hit Hai Phong, the banyan tree was still standing tall and proud, with only a few small branches broken.

In addition to the Troc banyan tree recognized as a heritage tree, there are many ancient trees in the Le Hop communal house grounds that are nearly a hundred years old. According to the Le Hop communal house's Festival Committee, along with the ancient communal house, the system of ancient trees is the pride of the local people, cared for and preserved as "treasures" of the villagers.
