“The Journey to Create the National Language” is a semi-fictional comic book that tells the story of the ups and downs in the life of Alexandre de Rhodes, a priest of the Vatican who came to Vietnam in the 17th century and had great merit in printing the first Vietnamese dictionary (Vietnamese - Portuguese - Latin Dictionary) in 1651.
Also on the occasion of the launch of this book, Kim Dong Publishing House will organize a discussion with the theme "The Journey of Creating the National Language - The Story of Vietnamese Writing" at 9:30 a.m. on October 12 at the National Library (Hanoi).
Accordingly, the discussion revolved around the journey of creation, development and dissemination of the Latin script of Vietnamese, since the priest Alexandre de Rhodes first set foot in Vietnam 400 years ago (1624 - 2024) and the value of the scripts recorded in the ups and downs of Vietnamese history.
The program has the participation of guests including: Dr. Pham Thi Kieu Ly - author of the book "Journey to create the National Language", Associate Professor Dr. Tran Trong Duong - Han Nom researcher and Dr. Vu Duc Liem - history researcher.
Through the discussion, Kim Dong Publishing House hopes that young readers will better understand Vietnamese and spread the flame of love for Vietnamese, the beautiful language of the Vietnamese people.
