Within the framework of the 9th Hanoi Book Fair in 2024 with the theme "Hanoi: Capital of culture and heroes - City for peace", the exchange and introduction of the book "Ho Chi Minh Trail" received much attention from book lovers in the capital.
The discussion was attended by the book's author, Ms. Sherry Buchanan, Mr. Nam Anandaroopa Nguyen (who accompanied the author on the Ho Chi Minh trail), representatives of the Vietnam Women's Publishing House and Colonel Nguyen Van Sau.
The book History of the Ho Chi Minh Trail is published and distributed by Nhan Dan Book Trading Company Limited in collaboration with Women's Publishing House.
Sharing about the book, author Sherry Buchanan said that to make distant concepts more concrete and vivid, she talked to women who directly protected their homeland and the Ho Chi Minh trail.
She believes strongly in the power of dialogue and healing so that all readers can better understand historical stories from different perspectives.
Colonel Nguyen Van Sau - Deputy Director of the Institute of Military History, Ministry of National Defence, commented: "This is a wonderful book, with a total of 244 pages, including pages of pictures. This is a very concise book, showing the perspective of an American woman, living in England, writing about the years of war caused by the American Empire in Vietnam.
I think this is a book about the role of women participating in the Ho Chi Minh trail on the Truong Son range. The book is presented from a new perspective, not influenced much by the war."
The Colonel was particularly impressed when the female author had a real journey along the Ho Chi Minh trail, from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh and to Laos to complete the book.
Ms. Khuc Thi Hoa Phuong, Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Women's Publishing House, emphasized: "This is a memoir and also a very rich document. I highly appreciate this book, as it provides documents on Vietnamese history, giving us a panoramic view of the Truong Son road. It is not only a road stretching along the length of the country, but also shows the human and material strength of the entire nation."
At the same time, what she liked most was the spirit of forgiveness and reconciliation in the book.
