Speaking at a meeting with businesses on the occasion of Vietnamese Entrepreneurs Day on October 13, Mr. Le Van Dung - Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee once again emphasized the transparency of local authorities in business activities.
"All businesses have equal opportunities, no front or back yard, no blue or red team" - Mr. Le Van Dung committed.
Previously, in July 2024, in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Le Van Dung also made a similar statement to the business community at an investment promotion seminar: "There will be no grease, no backroom dealings, no front yard and back yard."
This is a strong, positive and progressive statement, demonstrating the determination of the government in creating a transparent and fair business environment by the leaders of Quang Nam province, which is very welcome, especially in the context that businesses in Quang Nam are facing many difficulties, the number of businesses withdrawing from the market is much higher than the number returning to operation.
However, there is always a significant gap between expectations and reality in any field. Quang Nam’s commitment to equal opportunities, no front or back yard, no red or blue team… is clearly ideal, but businesses are still waiting for practical actions.
Because in the current business environment, many businesses are used to having to "go behind the scenes" or "grease the wheels" to get investment opportunities, or to overcome complicated administrative procedures.
Changing this mindset and long-standing habits takes time for both sides, but more importantly, determination from local authorities.
One of the factors that Quang Nam authorities need to pay attention to is the consistency between words and actions. Businesses will only truly trust and feel the government's commitment when all processes are carried out clearly, publicly, transparently and with clear results in the style of saying what can be done.
In particular, in addition to implementing transparency commitments, Quang Nam also needs to quickly find solutions to outstanding problems in practice, especially site clearance, compensation and status quo management, which are the biggest barriers to investment projects. The main reason, as Mr. Tran Quoc Bao - Chairman of the Quang Nam Provincial Business Association mentioned, is "from the capacity of the agency in charge of compensation and status quo management and the lack of determination of the locality".
In these difficult times, the commitment of Quang Nam leaders to accompany businesses and create a transparent business environment is a very necessary and motivating step, bringing great hope and expectations from the business community.
However, Quang Nam leaders' commitment alone is not enough. What the business community and investors are waiting for from Quang Nam government is change from real actions, not just words!
