On January 6, the Dak Lak Provincial Center for Disease Control reported that the unit had just recorded the first death from rabies in the province in 2025.
The victim is a boy (born in 2014), in Bang A Drenh commune, Krong Ana district, Dak Lak province.
According to the medical record, on January 1, the patient showed symptoms such as frequent vomiting, fatigue, fear of water and fear of wind. The family took the child to Thien Hanh General Hospital for examination and then transferred him to the Central Highlands General Hospital.
Here, the patient was diagnosed with full-blown rabies and monitored for sepsis. At 5:30 p.m. on January 4, the family asked to take the child home. At 5 a.m. on January 5, the patient died.
According to information from the family, about 3 months ago, the child was bitten on the left arm by a dog that was kept in the house but had not been vaccinated against rabies.
