On July 19, the Dak Lak Provincial Center for Disease Control (CDC) reported a death from dengue fever. This is the first death from dengue fever in the province since the beginning of 2025.
The patient is H.O.Q.N (Female, born in 2006), residing in Nam Nung commune, Lam Dong province; temporary residence address in Buon Ma Thuot ward, Dak Lak province.
According to the patient's family, from June 21 to July 3, the patient lived and worked in Buon Ma Thuot ward, Dak Lak province.
From July 3 to 6, the patient returned home in Nam Nung commune. At 6:00 p.m. on July 6, the patient returned to Buon Ma Thuot ward.
On the morning of July 7, the patient had a fever, headache, fatigue, bought medicine (unknown type) but it did not improve.
On the morning of July 10, the patient returned home in Nam Nung commune and was taken to the Krong No Regional Medical Center for examination. The patient was diagnosed with sore throat/fever of unknown cause and was given medicine to go home for treatment.
At around 8:00 p.m. on July 11, the patient had a severe abdominal pain and was taken to a private clinic by his family for examination.
On the morning of July 12, the patient was taken to the Central Highlands General Hospital for examination and hospitalization.
Here, the patient was diagnosed with dengue shock syndrome on day 6 with acute liver damage, severe thrombocytopenia, and damage to digestive bleeding.
On July 13, the patient's family asked to be transferred to Ho Chi Minh City Tropical Hospital for further treatment.
On July 14, the patient was admitted and treated at Ho Chi Minh City Tropical Hospital, discharged at 9:00 a.m. the same day with a diagnosis of multiple organ bleeding and multiple organ failure. The patient died on the way home at 16:32 on July 14.
According to statistics from the Dak Lak Provincial CDC, as of July 18, the whole province recorded more than 1,600 cases of dengue fever.
