On April 28, Hue Central Hospital held a discharge ceremony for the 7th synthetic bone marrow transplant patient with Thalassemia and the 45th autologous stem cell transplant for the treatment of neuroblastoma. This is an important step forward in the application of high technology, bringing healthy living opportunities to children with serious illnesses.
Baby D.Q.T (29 months old, Quang Ninh) was discovered to have Thalassemia at 7 months old, and had received a blood transfusion 12 times before receiving a allogeneic bone marrow transplant with his biological sister on April 4, 2025. After the transplant, platelets and white blood cells recover on September 23 and 16, respectively. Baby D.P.N (32 months old, Lam Dong) has a high-risk neuroblastoma, received an autologous stem cell transplant and recovered well after 30 days.
Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Nhu Hiep - Director of Hue Central Hospital said that allogeneic bone marrow transplantation is an optimal method to help children escape dependence on blood transfusion, opening up treatment prospects for many other serious diseases.
