From supervision to specific actions
By May 2025, the whole province of Quang Binh will have more than 246,000 children. Of which, over 89,000 children under 6 years old are being regularly monitored through the child health management software system of the health sector. It is not just an administrative figure, but a commitment to monitoring the physical and spiritual development of future generations.
Mr. Ho Tan Canh - Deputy Director of the Department of Health of Quang Binh province affirmed: "For children, all programs must aim for sustainable efficiency. Not only examining and treating, but also providing precautions, education and long-term companionship with their families.
Right from the beginning of the year, the health sector has issued many thematic plans, notably: Warm-ups for primary school students in districts, towns and cities in May 2025; training to improve the capacity of health workers and children's workers at the commune level on child care and protection and prevention and control of child abuse; organizing mock trials on prevention of child abuse and exploitation of child sexual exploitation in cyberspace... All are implemented synchronously, flexibly and linked to the reality of each locality.
Not only managing children's health data using synchronous software, the Quang Binh Department of Health also promotes inter-sectoral coordination - from school health to community health. In the first 5 months of 2025, the whole province has organized many communication sessions on drowning prevention and child abuse, with tens of thousands of students and parents participating.
In particular, drowning prevention work has been focused on after recording 7 cases of child drowning deaths (as of May 25, 2025). Mr. Ho Tan Canh said: "We consider each incident as a warning bell. Not only statistics, the health sector also coordinates with education, agencies, unions and commune and ward authorities to organize escape skills classes, safe swimming skills, and include water drowning prevention education in regular activities at schools".
The Department of Health also presides over reviewing and updating children's data on software periodically, ensuring complete and accurate information to serve medical examination and treatment activities and making intervention plans when necessary. In addition, health station staff are periodically trained in child psychology and how to handle situations where children are abused or have signs of physical abnormalities.
The Journey for a Child's smile
Not only focusing on disease treatment, the provincial health sector also focuses on physical and mental activities for children. In the series of activities for Workers' Month and Children's Action Month in 2025, the Department of Health coordinated with the Provincial Federation of Labor, Provincial Youth Union and mass organizations to organize sports festivals, build beautiful friendships, say no to school violence, skills to participate safely in cyberspace, say no to heated electronic cigarettes, school health care festivals, periodic oral check-ups for preschool and primary school children...
Mr. Ho Tan Canh shared: "We always aim for the image of a humane healthcare system. Quang Binh children not only need treatment when sick, but also need listening, protection, and creating a safe and healthy living environment every day".
In the coming time, the Quang Binh Department of Health will synchronously deploy activities related to child care and protection to meet the requirements of developing a prosperous and happy country, especially the Hearing screening program for children in mountainous areas and plans to bring the school clinic model to some high schools in Le Thuy, Minh Hoa, Quang Ninh districts - where access to healthcare is still difficult.
