Egg milk and hot chocolate are both familiar during the holiday season, but which drink is better for your health?

Comparing nutritional composition shows that hot chocolate is often lighter than egg milk. An average cup of hot chocolate provides about 190 calories, while the same amount of egg milk can exceed 220 calories, with the amount of saturated fat nearly double.

According to Alissa Rumsey, nutritionist, founder of Rumsey Nutrition Consulting (USA), hot chocolate has the advantage of being mixed properly. Hot chocolate made from pure cocoa powder and low-fat milk can provide antioxidants, while still controlling energy intake, says Rumsey.

Natural cocoa contains flavanol, a compound that is beneficial for the heart and blood circulation. However, this benefit will quickly "evaporate" if hot chocolate comes with fresh ice cream, sticky candy or too much sugar.

Egg milk, rich in nutrients but easily exceeds threshold

Egg milk is made from eggs, whole milk, cream and sugar, creating a characteristic smooth texture. Thanks to eggs and milk, this drink provides protein, calcium, vitamin B12, vitamin A and choline, important nutrients for the brain.

However, the biggest minus point of egg milk is its high saturated fat content. According to the American Heart Association's recommendation, consuming a lot of saturated fat can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease if prolonged.

Pano Laurenff, an American nutritionist, commented: Eagle is not a bad drink, but it should be considered a holiday treat, not used regularly as a daily drink.

In addition, traditional egg whites can contain raw eggs. Consumers are advised to only choose products that have been pasteurized or make homemade eggs with pasteurized eggs to avoid the risk of infection.
