On the evening of December 19, Ba Ria Hospital reported another death due to rabies in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province.
Previously, the patient, Mr. N.V.B (born in 1991, residing in Long Dien district, working as a dog and cat butcher and running a beer house) was hospitalized for treatment.
Relatives said that since December 17, the patient had symptoms of fatigue and difficulty breathing. The family took the patient to Cho Ray Hospital (HCMC) for examination and he was diagnosed with rabies.
The patient was then transferred to the Tropical Hospital, where samples were taken for RT-PCR testing of rabies virus and he was diagnosed with rabies. The hospital discharged him home on December 18.
On the morning of December 19, the patient had a rabies attack and was taken by his family to Ba Ria Hospital for treatment in the Infectious Diseases Department. He was in a state of lethargy, severe agitation, foaming at the mouth, and having muscle tremors all over his body.
At around 3:45 a.m., while waiting for admission procedures, the patient escaped, banged on the door and caused a disturbance in the house. Afterwards, security forces restrained him and handed him over to Ba Ria Hospital and his family.
Although the doctors actively treated him during the day, by noon, his condition continued to worsen. His family asked to be discharged home, but before completing the procedures, he died at the hospital.
Previously, on November 27, Ba Ria - Vung Tau recorded a death due to rabies, suspected to be caused by a cat scratch.
Currently, the provincial health sector has instructed those who have direct contact with the patient to monitor their health, comply with the vaccination schedule on time; organize disinfection spraying in the patient's house, the place where dogs and cats are kept; instruct and mobilize the patient's family to follow the regulations on hygiene in burial...
At the same time, organizing propaganda about the situation of rabies is happening, raising awareness for people on rabies prevention and actively participating in rabies vaccination for dogs and cats.
