Vitamin D levels may affect the health of overweight older adults, according to a study published in the Journal of the Endocrine Society. Specifically, vitamin D supplementation was found to reduce blood pressure in overweight older adults with hypertension.
Supplementing vitamin D along with calcium can reduce blood pressure in overweight older adults, said Ghada El-Hajj Fuleihan, professor of medicine at the American University of Beirut.
"Vitamin D deficiency is a risk factor for high blood pressure. Obese people have lower vitamin D levels, so vitamin D supplementation helps control blood pressure," added medical professor Ghada El-Hajj Fuleihan.
