The recent historic flood in Thai Nguyen province caused 6/9 districts and cities to be flooded. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa (Thai Nguyen City) said that the sudden flood left many families unable to react. When the water level rose more than 1 meter, the family had to evacuate and stay with neighbors.
"Currently, people still have to clean and disinfect to ensure safety. Household objects must be disinfected with soap and detergent because they have been soaked in water for a long time," said Ms. Hoa.
According to Ms. Hoa, after many days of soaking in water, some family members developed skin diseases, inflammation, allergies, and foot rot. Long-term exposure to dirty water affected the skin, initially just itching and burning. However, using soap and shower gel did not improve the condition, so she had to buy medicine to take. After many days of soaking in water, her skin became red and blistered. After going to the doctor, she was diagnosed with fungus, which could spread if not treated thoroughly.
In addition, some people also suffer from scabies, dermatitis or eye diseases. After the flood, the environment is affected, so it is easy for epidemics to appear.
According to Dr. Luong Minh Tuan - Head of Dermatology Department, Thai Nguyen A Hospital, in a flooded environment, prolonged contact with dirty water can easily cause fungus to enter the body. Some common skin diseases after floods are skin fungus, scabies or viral skin diseases such as chickenpox and rash fever. Contact dermatitis has many different manifestations, the most common of which are red bumps, possibly blisters, swelling causing itching, burning, and discomfort. People with existing skin diseases may have their condition worsened after contact with unsanitary water sources.
Talking to PV Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Do Trong Vu - Deputy Director of the Department of Health of Thai Nguyen province said that after the flood, in the face of potential risks of disease, the unit has directed the implementation of preventive measures and promoted propaganda on environmental sanitation issues.
"People are advised to go directly to medical facilities when they detect signs of the disease. The provincial disease control center has carried out disinfection spraying after the flood. Ensure safety and prevent the risk of epidemics," Mr. Vu added.
