At the age of 71, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong (village 11, Ea Ning commune) lives alone in a dilapidated level 4 house, located on the dirt road next to a coffee plantation.
Her thin figure, short hair, eyesight, and distant vision made anyone who saw her feel sad. For many years, she has been dependent on the care of the people and local authorities.
Ms. Phuong shared that I was born in 1954 in Nghe An. In 1979, I went to Ea Ning commune to live and work as a worker.
When I first came here, there were very few settlers in this area, I can say that I was one of the first newly arrived economicers to set foot in this land. "After many years of working, I have lost my working capacity and have been retired from home for more than ten years," said Ms. Phuong.
In the damp house, Ms. Phuong did not have a chair to welcome guests.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Truong - Secretary of the Village 11 Party Cell - said that Ms. Phuong is in a particularly difficult situation. Although over 70 years old, she still lives alone in a dilapidated house, without a toilet, kitchen or minimalist living items.
For more than 10 years, Ms. Phuong has been a poor household, and during the flood in mid-November, her house was seriously degraded.
Inside the house, there was a strong smell of mold, she slept on an old, dilapidated mattress placed under peeling cement. Apart from the mattress, there were no valuable assets in the house.
Previously, the local government had supported her with 20 million VND to repair her house from the budget of the "Following Uncle Ho's words" program.
However, after many years of rain and sunshine, the house has seriously degraded and needs urgent repair to ensure safety.
Many cracked walls, leaky corrugated iron roofs, and peeling floors need to be carved with cement or tiled; the kitchen and toilets are also urgent needs for her to have a more fulfilling life.
Mr. Truong expressed: "In the context of the elderly living alone, the people and the government always pay attention to supporting Ms. Phuong. She was not as lucky as others, not enjoying the blessings of old age".
"We hope that benefactors and organizations will support the cost of renovating the shelter, helping her have a peaceful and happy life in her old age" - Mr. Truong said.
