Mrs. Tinh was born in 1958, currently living in Gia Phuc village (Thuong Phuc commune, Hanoi). Her simple house is located deep in the village, separated from the vibrant rhythm of life outside. There are no valuable furniture in the house, only a set of wooden tables and chairs is an item given to her by relatives for sympathy.
Previously, Mrs. Tinh got married and had 1 daughter. She had to struggle in all kinds of jobs to make a living. In her health years, she took on handicraft embroidery, farming... Despite the hardship, she could still support herself and take care of her family.
The upheaval came when Mrs. Tinh's husband left to work far away, then her daughter got married. From then on, the house was left with her alone quietly day and night.
As she ages, Ms. Tinh's health is seriously declining. She suffers from many chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and joint pain all year round. The pain makes it difficult to walk, and daily activities also become heavy. Currently, she is no longer strong enough to do any work, including light housework.
Without a job, Ms. Tinh is also not eligible for social allowances. Her only source of income is the meager amounts of money that her daughter occasionally sends back, but this amount is not even because her daughter is also not well-off. Every time she receives money from her daughter, Ms. Tinh saves every penny to cover living expenses and medicine. For months when her daughter does not send money, she manages every penny to make ends meet...
Because she has no money, Ms. Tinh's daily meals are extremely frugal, mainly she only eats vegetables. Some days when there is nothing left in the house, she cooks a pot of thin porridge to eat sparingly. "I'm old and weak, I can't do anything. Eat to make ends meet, as long as I have strength, that's enough," Ms. Tinh said.
Old age without caregivers makes all difficulties worse. When the illness gets worse, Mrs. Tinh only dares to buy foreign medicine to drink for a while, not daring to go to the hospital for fear of expense. “When I am sick, I only know to try to endure it. It's very sad, my children still have their own family...", Mrs. Tinh sadly shared.

Neighbors around know Ms. Tinh's situation, so they occasionally visit and help her with small things. These simple cares have become a rare source of spiritual encouragement to help her overcome difficult days.
Talking to Lao Dong reporters, Mr. Ta Vi Ta - Head of Gia Phuc village, Thuong Phuc commune - said that in the past time, the locality has always cared for and grasped Ms. Vu Thi Tinh's situation and provided support within its capacity.
However, because she lives alone, is old, in poor health, no longer able to work and has no stable income, the current support only helps her somewhat overcome the immediate difficulties. We really hope that Ms. Tinh will receive attention, sharing and joint help from the community to make life less difficult," Mr. Ta said.
