Receive scholarship to buy books and clothes for children
On September 8, Tran Thi Thu Nguyet and her daughter took advantage of the early start selling lottery tickets to receive the scholarship from the Golden Heart Social Charity Fund - Lao Dong Newspaper for their daughter, TTTT (a 3/8 grade student at Hoa An Primary School, Bien Hoa City). Nguyet is a worker at Pouchen Vietnam Co., Ltd., but has a serious illness and has to sell lottery tickets; her nephew T was born with only one kidney and is in poor health. His father did not take care of him, so T still had to help his mother sell lottery tickets, but he was still an excellent student last school year.
On September 8, the Dong Nai Provincial Federation of Labor awarded scholarships to 20 students who are children of workers in difficult circumstances in Dong Nai province with a scholarship of 1 million VND/child in cash, from the fund supported by the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank) through the Golden Heart Charity Fund - Lao Dong Newspaper. In addition, each child also received a gift of a box of moon cakes.
The 20 children of workers who were considered for scholarships all have very difficult family circumstances such as being orphans, having a father or mother with a serious illness, having a work accident, not having a house, having to rent a house, having a very difficult family situation... but they all have one thing in common: the spirit of striving to overcome their circumstances and excel in their studies. In the past school year, they achieved excellent results in their studies.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ut, (33 years old, from Tra Vinh), living in Bien Hoa City, has 4 children but all of them are sick. Her husband is a stone quarry worker and is currently unemployed. Her youngest daughter, TNBA (7 years old), has brittle bone disease. Therefore, Ms. Ut had to quit her job to stay home and take care of her children, only doing weaving and collecting scrap metal to earn extra income.
Receiving a gift from the Golden Heart Social Charity Fund, Ms. Ut said: "When I get home, I will buy insurance and school supplies for my child, and help pay for his medicine."
Join hands to support workers' children
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhu Y - President of Dong Nai Provincial Labor Federation, this is a meaningful activity at the time when children enter the new school year and also prepare for the Mid-Autumn Festival. Dong Nai Labor Union hopes that in the coming time, it will continue to receive attention and support from the Golden Heart Social Charity Fund as well as benefactors joining hands to take care of workers' children.
According to the Dong Nai Provincial Federation of Labor, the work of caring for and supporting children of employees and their families in difficult circumstances has always been of concern to all levels of labor unions in the province.
To have funding sources to implement support programs, units have mobilized from benefactors, specialized authorities, enterprises inside and outside the province and from union welfare programs. Many units with a large number of workers also have diverse forms, such as establishing scholarship funds, mutual aid funds, the "Kindness of Arms" program to organize cultural training classes for workers' children, etc.
Every year, thousands of children of workers and their families in difficult circumstances receive gifts and scholarships from the Trade Union.
In 2023 and the first 6 months of 2024, on the occasion of Children's Action Month and Vietnamese Family Day and on the occasion of International Children's Day June 1 and Mid-Autumn Festival, 8,603 children of disadvantaged workers will be supported with scholarships, each worth from 500,000 VND to 2 million VND.
